04: From Furnace to Palace – Singing with Inspiration
The hymn that will be used as the theme for this quarter is from “The Church Hymnal, Official Hymnal of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church” which was surpassed by the “Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal” in 1985.In the ‘old’ hymnal,
Number 497 – Standing by a Purpose True, that is, ”Dare to be a Daniel” will be the favourite. I do hope you are able to source this hymn and use it frequently during this quarters Sabbath School study time.
On Sabbath afternoon, worship was the point that was presented:
Hymn 6 “O Worship the Lord”,
Hymn 83 “O Worship the King”,
Hymn 73 “Holy, Holy, Holy” and
Hymn 232 “At the Name of Jesus, every knee will bow”.
Even with the miracle of Daniel presenting the dream to Nebuchadnezzar, all too soon the king forgets God’s leading:
Hymn 537 “He Leadeth Me” and Hymn 691 “Lead Me, Lord”.
Monday continues on the theme of worship. We are also told not to abandon our commitment:
Hymn 634 “Come, All Christians, Be Committed”. This is followed directly by the fact “we are living in the last days of earth’s history”:
Hymn 617 “We Are Living, We Are Dwelling”.
Tuesday returns to our worship allegiance, and to
“Trust and Obey” Hymn 590.
The Fourth Man is the wonderful Saviour:
Hymn 335 “What a Wonderful Savior”.
The faith of the three young Hebrews is found in
Hymn 517 “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” and
Hymn 304 “Faith of our Fathers”. Thursday goes on to state the “quality of our relationship with God……it surrenders our will to the will of God” in
Hymn 309 “I Surrender All”. To do this we return to
Hymn 590 “Trust and Obey”.
The test of our faith is now coming to the Sabbath (Friday):
Hymn 388 “Don’t Forget the Sabbath” and
Hymn 390 “We Love Thy Sabbath, Lord”.
God’s blessings as you enjoy your “Singing with Inspiration” this quarter.
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Thank you, Maurice, for your listing of appropriate hymns for this week, and a theme hymn for the quarter. Before I had read down the list, the “old” hymn of “Dare to be a Daniel” instantly came to mind. Sadly, there are many “old” hymns that are not in the new hymnal, but I guess that’s “progress”!
Where is Corrine? I trust she is well and will continue to contribute her musical knowledge and input.
God bless you all at SSNet.
Oops. I am the one that published Corinne's post and in my hurry I forgot to change the author's name. Corinne is alive and well and I actually passed her on her way to work when I was on my way back from my bird photography walk. (we are neighbours) We stopped and chatted about the six or seven instruments issue - six named in the KJV, only five is some other translations, and seven claimed by the lesson authors. We have both independently made the observation that the combination was more like a concert ensemble than a Clarion Call.
Hello Jaye
Thank you for asking if all is well for me.
Blessings to you.
Corinne
I always read your comments, and they inspire me. However, I have one problem, I read the bible and the lesson but I don't understand. I rarely comment in my class where i worship. Whenever I try to pray and open the bible to read, I fall asleep. Pray for me.
Hi Linda

Pray is going up to the Lord just for you, so the He will intervene for you to pray and read your Bible!
Blessings to you
Thanks to both of you. All is well. I didn’t think anything was different, Maurice, until I saw your name at the end. The format was that of Corinne, hence my post. Look forward to continued input from both of you in your respective areas. God bless you.
Did I meet you Corinne just recently in church at Avondale Memorial? I think I did and would love to see you more. Your name is familiar as I said and now I see why!
Happy Sabbath, Joy.
Yes, we met at Avondale Memorial Church last Sabbath
Blessings to you and your ministry
Corinne
Thanks Corinne - that has solved my dilemma. It was great to meet you. I'm in PNG right now packing up my house and hope to meet up with you another time in Cooranbong sometime. Bless you. JOY
