The Harvest

Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.” (By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.) Key Thought: Jesus often quoted from the Old Testament. But to the Jewish leaders, tradition was more important than Biblical instruction. Let’s look at Jesus’ interaction with the Pharisees in Mark chapters 7 and 8. August 10, 2024 1. Have a volunteer read Mark 7:14-19. Ask class members to share a short thought on what … Continue reading –>

Two Men Arguing About Inside or Outside

Daily Lesson for Monday 5th of August 2024 Read Mark 7:14-19. What did Jesus mean by the riddle in Mark 7:15? Jesus’ words in this passage have been a conundrum for many as they ponder their relationship to the teachings of Leviticus 11:1-47 regarding clean and unclean foods. At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
