Ruin Satan’s Day

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 23, 2012 by William EarnhardtAugust 12, 2014avatar

Has Satan ever tried to ruin your day? Well let me tell you about when I ruined his day. Years ago, I was driving in the middle of the night across country to see my sister and see about a job. I had just quit a job that was not working out and had no … Continue reading –>

Monday: God Has Chosen You (1 Thess. 1:4)

God's Hand Saving Man

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:4. What does it mean that God has chosen or elected us? Does that mean we don’t really have a choice? On the other hand, does it mean that someone who is not chosen by God cannot have salvation even if he or she wants it? Verse 4 continues the same extended sentence … Continue reading –>

Sunday: A Prayer of Thanks (1 Thess. 1:1-3)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 21, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

In the opening words of 1 Thessalonians, we catch a glimpse of the selflessness of Paul. While he was clearly the author of this letter (1 Thess. 2:18, 3:5, 5:27), he gives recognition to his coworkers Silas and Timothy. Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3. For what things are Paul, Silas, and Timothy giving thanks? What do these things mean in a … Continue reading –>

Daniel, Paul and Thessalonica

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 20, 2012 by Stephen TerryJune 23, 2017avatar

“The goat became very great, but at the height of its power the large horn was broken off, and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.” Daniel 8:8, NIV The story of Thessalonica begins in the loins of Philip II of Macedon. Philip not only fathered the well-known … Continue reading –>

Further Study: Thessalonica in Paul’s Day

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 19, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

“Providence had directed the movements of nations, and the tide of human impulse and influence, until the world was ripe for the coming of the Deliverer. . . “At this time the systems of heathenism were losing their hold upon the people. Men were weary of pageant and fable. They longed for a religion that … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Etienne’s Second Chance

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 19, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Most Adventist churches in Haiti hold evangelistic meetings in January. Etienne’s host family invited her to attend the meetings in their church. Etienne went to please her hosts, but she paid little attention to the speaker. Then on January 12, 2010, the earth shook furiously. Etienne staggered out of the house just moments before it … Continue reading –>

Signs Showing Directions to Many Paths

“Postmodern” is the descriptor for our world today. For me, the word dredges up mental pictures of grey post-apocalyptic cityscapes populated by grey, blank-eyed, place fillers. In reality though, our postmodern world is peopled with armies of highly engaged individuals who can access a wealth of information on almost any topic with just a few … Continue reading –>

03: Thessalonica in Paul’s Day – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 18, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 1, 2013Joyce Griffith

“Mom! Dad! Where’s everybody?” Ariston let his sandals clack against the hard surface of the walkway as he dashed through the Thessalonian house where he lived with his family. “Over here!” His mother called from the corner of the house where she was mixing dough for flat bread. “What is so urgent?” “Can I go see … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Home Churches

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 18, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Read Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:19; Colossians 4:15; and Philemon 1, 2. What do all these texts have in common? In the Roman world there were two main types of residences. There was the domus, a large, single-family home built around a courtyard, typical of the wealthy. Such a home could provide a meeting place for 30-100 people. The other type … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
