[Lesson Plan for Words of Wisdom February 16, 2015]
1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 20:6-11.
a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is.
b. How can we evaluate men who say they are loyal, and children whether their work is pure?
c. Personal Application: Do you ever find yourself feeling superior or inferior to someone else? What does the cross tell us about our equality? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your relatives states: “Why do we get satisfaction out of helping others? What does this tell us about the rich who seem to be miserable?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 20:19-22.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most important point is in this passage.
b. How can we understand our own ways? We think we are good, but we are not.
c. Personal Application: Have you ever planned to get even for evil, or actually did? Why does God say to wait on Him? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: One of your friends states, “Why does the Bible say an inheritance shall not be blessed? What’s wrong with an inheritance?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
3. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 21:2,3,9,19.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. Why is it better to do what’s right rather than repenting and asking forgiveness for doing what’s wrong? Doesn’t God forgive us when we sin?
c. Personal Application: If ever way is right in a person’s own eyes, how can they be persuaded or convinced that they are not doing what is right? Share your thoughts..
d. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “What happens to the family of a wife that is argumentative, contentious, angry, and brawling? Is this behavior inherent or learned? Can it be improved or turned around?” How would you respond to your friend?
4. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 22:6,15,28.
a. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
b. What is the best way to train a child? What are important things you want your child to focus on in its training or behavior?
c. Personal Application: How were you disciplined as a child? Was the discipline useful in correcting your behavior? Share your thoughts.
d. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
