Further Study: Church Life

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 6, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

“[As a child] Jesus carried into His labor cheerfulness and tact. It requires much patience and spirituality to bring Bible religion into the home life and into the workshop, to bear the strain of worldly business, and yet keep the eye single to the glory of God. This is where Christ was a helper. He … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Light in the Darkness, 1

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 6, 2012 by SSNET StaffApril 11, 2015avatar

Bhutan is a small mountainous country lying on the southern slopes of the Himalayas and bordered by northeast India. For generations it has been cut off from the outside world. Bhutanese are nearly all Buddhist and Hindu. There are few known Christians in the country. But God has ways of opening hearts and leading seekers … Continue reading –>

Counterfeit or Genuine?

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 5, 2012 by Stephen TerryNovember 11, 2013avatar

“…hold on to what is good,” 1 Thessalonians 5:21, NIV While walking through Riverfront Park recently in downtown Spokane, I was approached by a young man and offered a one million dollar bill. Knowing that the United States does not issue one million dollar bills, I refused. I then discovered it was part of a … Continue reading –>

10: Church Life – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 5, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 8, 2012Joyce Griffith

Introduction Three admonitions, six imperatives, eight brief admonitions, and closing prayer. This is how Paul concludes his first letter to the Thessalonians. Fasten your seat belts. This could be an exhilarating and life-altering experience for us, sitting with the rest of the last-day believers in church homes and other meeting places around the world. What is Paul’s … Continue reading –>

Thursday: End-Time Holiness

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 5, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24. What does it mean to be “sanctified wholly” and “preserved blameless” at the coming of the Lord? Shouldn’t we be that way, even now? In today’s passage Paul returns to the language of prayer. His style is similar to that of 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13. His main theme is also similar: being found blameless … Continue reading –>

God’s Love and My Flawed Marriage

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 5, 2012 by Jennifer SchwirzerDecember 1, 2016avatar

My friend Harold called me about a month ago, asking, “Can you come speak on marriage at our church retreat? We have so many couples in crisis!” H’mm, I thought. I enjoy public speaking. The date is open. I can promote my latest book. It’s a great opportunity to share God’s love. Everything checked out … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Relating to “New Light”

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 4, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

“Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22, NKJV). What is Paul saying to us here? How can these words be applied in our experience? What “form of evil” must you, in your own situation, work extra hard … Continue reading –>

Leaders and Coaches and Mentors – Oh My!

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 3, 2012 by Lillianne LopezSeptember 1, 2013avatar

I have a set of dishes that I brought back from Germany with me that I only use on very special occasions. The dishes were pretty expensive and, I think, beautiful, but I use them maybe three times a year. Most of the time they sit in a cabinet and collect dust. When I do … Continue reading –>

The Stranger on Siesta Keys

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 3, 2012 by William EarnhardtApril 27, 2015avatar

A chance encounter or divine appointment? You be the judge. Yesterday morning I woke up on my day off. Not sure how I wanted to spend it, I went to deliver some baptismal robes to a nearby church which needed them for Sabbath. When I stopped  by my church to pick them up, my pastor … Continue reading –>

10: Church Life – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 3, 2012 by Michael FrackerJanuary 2, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought: Paul admonishes the Thessalonians on their attitude toward church leaders, keeping a positive Christian attitude, and how to relate to new light on prophecy. [Teaching plan for Church Life September 3. 2012] 1. Have a volunteer read I Thessalonians 5:12-15. A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
