The Origin of the Sabbath and the 7-Day Week

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 8, 2012 by Sean PitmanAugust 11, 2017avatar

Many, even among those who call themselves Adventists, question the true origin of the Sabbath and of the 7-day weekly cycle. Of course, the Bible claims that God instituted both during the Creation Week described in Genesis. However, critics of the biblical account claim that the seven-day week was actually invented by the Assyrians, or … Continue reading –>

DNA

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”  Romans 1:20 People have always been able to learn something about God from what God has created.  But as science has advanced, and has … Continue reading –>

Does It Matter How Long God Took to Create?

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 15, 2011 by Cindy TutschApril 18, 2013avatar

Several of my young adult friends have messaged me recently with comments like, “I consider myself a Creationist because I believe that God created the earth. Why does it matter if He created it in seven literal contiguous 24-hour periods, or over millions of years? Either way, He created.” Character of God It’s a good … Continue reading –>

Jesus, the Sustainer of My Life

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 7, 2011 by Tyler ClutheJune 26, 2012avatar

We often think of God as the creator and the one who keeps us alive. We look at Him as the one who blesses us by supplying all our needs and many of our wants. But how often do we really think about the extent that God is involved with us? The writer of Hebrews … Continue reading –>

The Sabbath, Creation and Faith

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 11, 2011 by Stephen TerryOctober 16, 2015avatar

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.  He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the … Continue reading –>

Reverence

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 4, 2011 by Stephen TerryAugust 5, 2013avatar

“Do not come any closer, God said. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5, NIV The opening chapters of the book of Exodus represent a low point in the history of God’s people. From calling upon the name of the Lord in the early chapters of … Continue reading –>

Sons of God and Sons of Men

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 28, 2011 by Stephen TerryApril 11, 2014avatar

Those who have children often wonder how two children in the same family can be so different? One child may be shy and retiring while their sibling is a social butterfly, glowing with delight when surrounded by others and always ready for a party. When spiritual issues are at stake, parents often fret over their … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
