Offerings of Gratitude – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 1, 2018 by Curtis HallJanuary 12, 2019avatar
A heart on a texture background with a puzzle piece missing

The Missing Ingredients This week as we continue our study of stewardship by focusing on offerings, we are reminded of some of the reasons why we give. Using some of the biblical examples of people expressing their gratitude to Jesus, we affirm that the best motivation for giving springs from a love of God. But … Continue reading –>

Key Thought: Giving of offerings; whether from means, time, or talent; is a way of living our faith and revealing God’s character in our lives. Lesson 9, March 3, 2018 1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 6:19-21. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is. … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Experience of Giving

Giving

If Christ came to reveal to us the character of God, one thing should be clear by now: God loves us, and He wants only the best for us. He asks us to do only what would be for our own benefit, never to our detriment. This would include, too, His call for us to … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Motives of the Heart

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 27, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2018avatar
Motives of the Heart

In an earlier lesson we noted the story of the widow’s generous offering. Though minuscule in comparison to other offerings, it was generous because it showed the true nature of her character and heart, prompting Jesus to say, “This poor widow has put in more than all” (Luke 21:3, NKJV). God alone (James 4:12) knows our true motives (Prov. … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Our Best Offering

Our best offering

Read Luke 7:37-47. What does this story teach us about the proper motivation for offerings to God? Mary entered the room and saw Jesus reclining at the table. She broke the alabaster box of expensive nard and poured it on Him. Some thought her act was improper, considering that the life she lived was illicit. But … Continue reading –>

9: Offerings of Gratitude – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 26, 2018 by Joyce GriffithJanuary 12, 2019Joyce Griffith

“Where your treasure is…” Are you tempted to smile at the description of moths and rust representing the ultimate destruction of what we value on earth? They are destructive, and thieves are probably more so and have always been a major source of destruction of important possessions, including money, since sin entered this world. Given a … Continue reading –>

Monday: Stewards of the Grace of God

Man Watering Tree

What, according to Ephesians 2:8, is something else we have been given by God? Grace is “undeserved favor.” It is a gift you do not deserve. God has poured out His grace on this planet and, if we would simply not reject it, His grace will reach down and transform our lives, now and for eternity. … Continue reading –>

Giving Out of Gratitude Instead of Hoping for Rewards

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 25, 2018 by William EarnhardtJanuary 12, 2019avatar

This quarter we have been sharing encouraging testimonies, how God has blessed us when we returned our tithe. We encourage others to tithe so they too can receive miraculous blessings. However, this reminds me of a conversation I had with my senior pastor several years ago. I was studying with a family who owned a … Continue reading –>

Sunday: “Where Your Treasure Is”

Sabbath School Net Posted on February 24, 2018 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 12, 2019avatar
Your treasure is in heaven

Read Matthew 6:19-21. Though we are so familiar with these texts, how can we nevertheless be free from the powerful hold earthly treasures can have on us? See Col. 3:1-2. “‘For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt. 6:21, NKJV) is an appeal from Jesus. The full magnitude of this statement can be seen from the … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
