Jesus Speaking with Pharisees

Daily Lesson for Thursday 18th of July 2024 Read Mark 3:20-21. What experience led Jesus’ family to consider Him out of His mind? A charge of mental instability is quite serious. Typically this arises from experiences where a person is a threat to his or her own safety. Jesus’ family felt this way about Him … Continue reading –>

Jesus Casting out a Demon

Daily Lesson for Wednesday 17th of July 2024 Read Mark 3:20-35. What connection do you see between the two stories intertwined in this passage? This passage is the first “sandwich story” in Mark, where one story is begun and then is interrupted by another story, with the first story completed only afterward. The outer story … Continue reading –>

Preparing to Make the Sabbath a Delight

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 15, 2024 by William EarnhardtJuly 22, 2024avatar
God's Rainbow of Promise brings delight to the Sabbath

Friday evenings always bring fond memories of Sabbaths at home when I was a kid. We always had our Friday rituals even though they changed from time to time. We would play family games, or go on drives when I was little. Later, I remember we would get all the chores and baths done and … Continue reading –>

Amplify the Gospel, Silence the Controversies

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 15, 2024 by William EarnhardtJuly 22, 2024avatar

Amplified controversies can silence the Gospel, or amplifying the Gospel can silence controversies.  The church in Jesus’ day was praying. They prayed so much Jesus had to warn people not to be showing off how much they were praying and to pray in their closets. The church in Jesus’ day was debating Scripture. Many lawyers … Continue reading –>

Jesus Standing in Field of Grain

Daily Lesson for Tuesday 16th of July 2024 In Mark 2:23-24, the Pharisees accuse the disciples of breaking the Sabbath. According to Jewish tradition, 39 forms of labor were forbidden on the Sabbath, which, in the Pharisees’ minds, included what the disciples had done. Read Mark 2:23-28. How does Jesus counter the charge brought by … Continue reading –>

3 Controversies – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 14, 2024 by Corinne KnopperJuly 14, 2024avatar

It is wonderful to travel through John Mark’s life and see the beautiful story climax with  Christ The Lord Is Risen Today – Hymn 166, therefore  Go, Preach My Gospel – Hymn 378. These two hymns give us a purpose all during this quarter to hasten the coming of our Lord Jesus. May you enjoy … Continue reading –>

3: Controversies – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 14, 2024 by Michael FrackerJune 28, 2024Michael Fracker

Key Thought: Mark Chapters 2 and 3 contain stories that illustrate Jesus teachings in a topical parallel. Some focus on the nature of Jesus, His role as Messiah, and the nature of discipleship. July 20, 2024 1. Have a volunteer read Mark 2:1-12. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the most … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
