Wednesday: A Great Obstacle for Unity

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 19, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 23, 2014avatar

How can Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1-5 help us to avoid divisions and conflicts in the church? It is much easier to see the faults in others than to see our own. To criticize gives a false sense of superiority, because the critic compares himself with other human beings who seem to be worse than … Continue reading –>

How the Church Failed Mo

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2014 by Marcos David TorresSeptember 27, 2014avatar

Mo is a pretty cool dude. I don’t say super cool because, after all, he is my brother and so pretty cool will have to do. (I’m sure such a “theorem” would be reciprocated by a hearty “my sentiments exactly” on his part.) Anyhow, the point is he’s pretty cool. Now Candice, my special lady, … Continue reading –>

08: The Church – Lesson Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2014 by Michael FrackerAugust 23, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : The church is not an invention of man. The church was established by Jesus Christ to continue His covenant relationship with man. [Lesson Plan for The Church August 18, 2014] 1. Have a volunteer read Matthew 16:18. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Christ’s Provision for Unity

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 18, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonApril 12, 2015avatar

What is the basis for the unity that Jesus prayed about for His church? See John 17:23 and John 15:1-5. You in Me, and I in you (John 14:20, NKJV) expresses the intimate relationship we need to have with Jesus. The presence of Jesus in our hearts produces unity. He brings to our lives two … Continue reading –>

Monday: Christ’s Prayer for Unity

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 17, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 22, 2014avatar

It was Thursday night. After the Last Supper, Jesus and the disciples went toward the Mount of Olives. On their way to Gethsemane, Jesus stopped and prayed for Himself, for His disciples, and for all who later would believe in Him through the apostles’ preaching. Although the agony of the Cross was before Him, His … Continue reading –>

Sunday: The Foundation of the Church

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 16, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonSeptember 2, 2014avatar

Jesus said on this rock I will build My church (Matt. 16:18, NKJV). Who is the rock (petra in Greek) upon which the church is built? Some interpreters believe that Peter is the rock. They argue that the Lord used a play on words between Peter and rock (Petros and petra, respectively, in Greek)-a play … Continue reading –>

Did Jesus Tell Us to Love Ourselves First?

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 15, 2014 by Inge AndersonApril 12, 2015avatar

The speaker was telling us that when Jesus told us to love our neighbors as ourselves, He was saying that we need to love ourselves first. After all, if we don’t love ourselves, we can’t love our neighbors. I was only 15 and was sitting in a girls’ dormitory worship service. But something just didn’t … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: God is My Rock

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 14, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 18, 2014avatar

I’m Angelo. I live in Madagascar, the large island off the eastern coast of Africa. My parents are Christians, but they attended different churches and often fought over what to believe. To me church worship became a source of arguments, not an act of love. When I was 10 years old my mother wanted to … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Study: Living Like Christ

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 14, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 24, 2017avatar

Further Study: Ellen G. White, The Good Samaritan, p. 497-505; and The Least of These My Brethren, p. 637-641, in The Desire of Ages. All around us are poor, tried souls that need sympathizing words and helpful deeds. There are widows who need sympathy and assistance. There are orphans whom Christ has bidden His followers … Continue reading –>

07: Living Like Christ – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 13, 2014 by Curtis HallAugust 14, 2014avatar

Where have all of the nice Christians gone? I know they still exist. I have seen them. They stand out because of their constant cheerfulness, even in trying situations. They never have anything negative to say about anyone, including the growing online internet bashing and mocking of others (check out a typical Facebook feed). They … Continue reading –>

Thursday: How to Live Like Jesus

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 13, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 16, 2014avatar
Jesus Praying

Jesus’ teachings set such a high ideal of a selfless, loving life that most of us probably feel overwhelmed and discouraged. How can we, who are selfish by nature, love our neighbor unselfishly? Moreover, is it even possible for us to love our enemies? From a human point of view it is utterly impossible. But … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
