10: A Love Response – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 6, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

Melody and Stewart Part 2 “Good morning, class,” Stewart said after the general greetings and opening prayer had been shared. “We’re going to do something today we’ve never done before.” He looked around. “Let’s start with Matthew 18:19 and 20.” Bible pages rustled as class members turned to the required text. “Go therefore and make … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Free to Be a Slave

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 6, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

The Bible makes it clear that we were once slaves to sin, but through Christ we have been released (Rom. 6:6), set free (Gal. 5:1), delivered (1 Thess. 1:10), adopted (Rom. 8:15), and born again (1 Pet. 1:23). The effective worker for God is the one who has given the past to Him and has accepted His power … Continue reading –>

What’s My Motivation?

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 5, 2012 by Lillianne LopezSeptember 27, 2015avatar

Why do we do what we do? What motivates any of us to do anything? People are trying to motivate us to do things all the time. They want us to spend our money at their stores. They want us to buy their product or drive their car. Teachers try to motivate their students to … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Legalism Trap

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 5, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

There’s an English expression that says: “There is no such thing as a free lunch”–the idea that if you receive something free, it really isn’t free because somewhere, somehow, sometime, you will have to pay or repay. The theory that nothing is ever really free has subtly infiltrated Christian thinking to the extent that many … Continue reading –>

10: A Love Response – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 4, 2012 by Michael FrackerSeptember 3, 2017Michael Fracker

Key Thought : Christ’s loving service to us should awaken a loving response as the basis for our witness as reflected in our loving ministry to others.   [Teaching plan for A Love Response  June 4, 2012] 1. Have a volunteer read I John 4:18,19. A. Ask class members to share a short thought on … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Motivated to Serve

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 4, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

What would you think of someone who constantly and loudly declared that they were motivated and yet attempted nothing? What about someone who claimed to be dedicated yet never revealed to what, or to whom, they were dedicated? As we have seen, love is a most powerful motivator; but to only declare our love, even … Continue reading –>

Monday: Not by Guilt

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 3, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

Over the centuries guilt has been used to motivate people to action. Evangelism leaders have often reminded us that God has given us responsibility and that we must use our God-given talents and gifts. We are told that God or the church is depending on us. If God has done so much to save us, … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Motivated by Love

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 2, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

Have you ever wondered why often it seems difficult to motivate people to long-term commitments in church projects? Perhaps the answer can be found as we think of some other situations where a very high degree of motivation and commitment are evident. What is it that motivates a parent to donate one of their kidneys … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: A Love Response

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 1, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: 1 John 4:18-19; Rom. 3:19-20; John 15:13; Rom. 5:6–8; John 6:28-29. Memory Text: “ ‘If you love Me, keep My commandments’ ” (John 14:15, NKJV). Key Thought: We should work to win souls to Christ; the question we need to ask ourselves is, What motivates us to do just that? Although our memory text is … Continue reading –>

Guilty Bystander

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 31, 2012 by Lillianne LopezJune 6, 2012avatar

Do you know what a “wall flower” is? Someone, at a party who spends most of his or her time standing and watching, rather than participating. In the online world, “lurkers” are the folks who go into chat rooms or on discussion boards on the internet and just read what everybody was talking about, but … Continue reading –>

Further Study: Releasing Into Ministry

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 31, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2015avatar

As mentioned in last Friday’s further study section, twelve months is a good length of time to plan ahead. Depending on what witnessing and evangelism program you are planning, specific time frames will vary with different goal strategies and priorities. However, there are some general points to consider. Document what you aim to achieve throughout … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Our Great Healer

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 31, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonApril 11, 2015avatar

Elsa V. Malig-on Three-year-old Jenny never missed the morning and evening worships in our village. So when she didn’t attend one morning, I missed her. “Where is Jenny?” I asked “She’s sick, teacher!” one boy answered. After worship I went to check on Jenny and found her lying in her family’s one-room house, writhing with … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
