Thursday: “Behold, I Come Quickly”

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 28, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

That the Lord had not yet come is undoubtedly the basis for some of Paul’s counsel to the Thessalonians. What does Paul counsel the church at Thessalonica as they wait for the promised coming of Christ? 2 Thessalonians 2.  1 Certain events have to transpire in human history before Jesus will return, yet, the hope for the future … Continue reading –>

13: The promise of His return – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 27, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 9, 2014Joyce Griffith

“When is Jesus coming? Do you know?”1 “No. Do you?” “Mom.” Robert took a breath. “It says right here that He’s coming quickly. Those were His own words. He said, ‘I am coming quickly.’ ” “That’s good enough for me.” “Mom. Other places in the Bible it says Jesus is coming soon. Some guys at school … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: “Where Is the Promise of His Coming?”

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 27, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

From the earliest days of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Adventists believed that Christ’s coming was soon, “nearer than we first believed.” As it stands, we’re still here, much longer than many among us anticipated. How are we to understand this “delay”?1 First of all, we’re not the only ones whose expectations about when the Lord … Continue reading –>

13: The Promise of His Return – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 26, 2012 by Michael FrackerSeptember 9, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : Just as surely as we believe in Jesus and His word, we can believe in His promise to return. We can’t be certain of when, but we can be sure He is returning.   [Teaching plan for “The Promise of His Return” March 26, 2012] 1. Have a volunteer read 2 Peter … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Our Great Assurance

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 26, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

As Christians, as Seventh-day Adventist Christians, we live with the hope of Christ’s literal return to this earth. Some Christian groups have abandoned hope in this teaching or have pushed it off to the side or they have watered it down and so spiritualized it away that the Second Coming becomes essentially just a personal … Continue reading –>

Monday: Promise and Expectation

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 25, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar
Second Coming

Because “last things” center around the establishing of God’s kingdom, attention to “last things” has always been a paramount Seventh-day Adventist concern. So much so that we have drawn attention to the end times in our name: Seventh-day Adventist. The name itself points to our belief in the second advent of Jesus.1 How does Peter express … Continue reading –>

Sunday: The Beginning and the End

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 24, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

The description of our pitiful human condition is honestly and correctly painted in Scripture. Bible writers did not always despair, however, because they knew the final outcome. The last chapters in the books of Isaiah and Revelation assure us that the destruction of sin is coming and that God’s kingdom will be restored. God revealed … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: The Promise of His Return

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 23, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

Memory Text: “ ‘And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work’ ” (Revelation 22:12, NKJV). Key Thought: When is Jesus coming back? Who knows? In one sense, it doesn’t matter. … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Breakthrough at Bebe Village

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 22, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

Wilson Kuki In the Solomon Islands and many other island nations of the South Pacific, individual villages and even entire regions are under the domain of a single church. It’s often difficult to gain access to these villages, for the people’s culture and identity are wrapped up in their church affiliation. As a Global Mission … Continue reading –>

Further Study: Love Stories

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 22, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

In both the Old and the New Testament, marriage is utilized to represent the tender and sacred union that exists between Christ and His people. To the mind of Jesus, the gladness of wedding festivities pointed forward to the rejoicing of that day when He shall bring home His bride to the Father’s house, and … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Jesus and Romance

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 21, 2012 by Sabbath School LessonFebruary 14, 2016avatar

Read John 2:1–11. What does this tells us about Jesus’ attitude toward marriage and romantic love? What does it mean that He gave His blessing to such boisterous and long-drawn-out affairs as Jewish weddings were in that day and age?  1 Jesus had just returned from the wilderness of temptation, where He Himself had drunk the cup … Continue reading –>

Ultimate Romance

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 21, 2012 by Lillianne LopezMarch 22, 2013avatar

I’m embarrassed to admit that I have always been a hopeless romantic. I spent several years reading anything I could find that involved a love story.  I loved fairy tales long after they were considered age appropriate.  Then I would watch and re-watch those sappy old romantic movies.1 I think that most of us (guys, … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
