Sunday: The Two Sides of Judgment

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 25, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read Genesis 3:15-24. List the various ways that God judged Adam and Eve both positively and negatively in this passage. Though the specific word judgment does not occur in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, the passage is very much concerned with it. Paul wants the believers in Thessalonica to be aware that God’s judgment is not limited to something that happens … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: Final Events

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 24, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: 1 Thess. 5:1-11, Gen. 3:15-24, Isa. 13:6-9, Luke 21:34-36, Rom. 1:18. Memory Text: “But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation” (1 Thessalonians 5:8, ESV). Key Thought: The reality of Christ’s return calls us to continual readiness. In … Continue reading –>

Further Study: Dead in Christ

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 23, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

“Many interpret this passage [1 Thess. 4:14] to mean that the sleeping ones will be brought with Christ from heaven; but Paul meant that as Christ was raised from the dead, so God will call the sleeping saints from their graves and take them with Him to heaven.”-Ellen G. White, The Acts of the Apostles, p. 259. “The Thessalonians … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Faith and the Pigs

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 23, 2012 by SSNET StaffApril 11, 2015avatar

“You are going to do what?” demanded Mitalyn’s husband. “I’m going to become an Adventist,” she said as firmly as she could. Mitalyn knew that her husband, her neighbors, and almost everyone she knew would object to her decision. But she couldn’t wait any longer. Mitalyn had grown up believing that Adventists were bad people … Continue reading –>

Till We Meet Again

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2012 by Lillianne LopezJuly 18, 2013avatar

I recently met a woman whose husband died suddenly and tragically less than a year ago. They had been together over forty years and had been high school sweethearts. She has the most amazing attitude. Yes she misses him terribly, but she knows that she will see her husband again. In fact, they had promised … Continue reading –>

What Does it Mean to Live Like an Adventist?

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2012 by William EarnhardtJune 5, 2018avatar

What does it mean to “live like an Adventist?” Here is what inspiration tells us about this name. “No name which we can take will be appropriate but that which accords with our profession and expresses our faith and marks us a peculiar people. The name Seventh-day Adventist is a standing rebuke to the Protestant … Continue reading –>

08: The Dead in Christ – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2012 by Joyce GriffithJanuary 30, 2017Joyce Griffith

The death of infants and children seems terrible because the precious ones are gone without having lived a life for Jesus. And, of course, the death of parents and hard-working adults who are giving family members a livelihood and taking care of others are heroes we don’t want to lose. But as we age, the death of … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Comfort One Another (1 Thess. 4:13, 17, 18)

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13, 17, 18. What is the ultimate purpose of this passage about the second coming of Jesus? As we said earlier, the purpose of prophecy is not to satisfy our curiosity about the future but to teach us how to live today. For Paul, the order of final events has practical implications for everyday Christian … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Rising in Christ (1 Thess. 4:15, 16)

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 21, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar
Empty Graves After the Second Coming

In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Paul builds on the earthly teachings of Jesus. There are more than a dozen parallels between these end-time passages and the sayings of Jesus recorded in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. But when Paul talks about the “word of the Lord” in 1 Thessalonians 4:15 (NKJV), he is referring to a saying of Jesus that did … Continue reading –>

08: The Dead in Christ – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 20, 2012 by Michael FrackerJanuary 2, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : Paul corrects a number of misconceptions about the state of the dead and the second coming of Christ to the Thessalonians that can help us today. [Teaching plan for “The Dead in Christ” August 20, 2012] 1. Have a volunteer read I Thessalonians 4:13,14. A. Ask class members to share a short … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
