Tuesday: All Things to All Men

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 19, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 24, 2014avatar

Take a close look at the references to law in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. What is Paul saying here? Why such a strong emphasis on law? God’s desire is that all people accept His gift of eternal life and become citizens of His everlasting kingdom. In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul reveals his method of attracting people … Continue reading –>

Monday: the “Rules” of Love

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 18, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 27, 2014avatar
Jesus Is the Center of the Law

(John 15:10) Scripture provides a number of examples of Jesus’ fidelity to the law of God. For instance, although His words in Luke 2:49 imply that at a young age He understood His identity, when His earthly mother expressed the hurt she felt that resulted from His straying from the family, He humbly accompanied His parents … Continue reading –>

Sunday: The Law and the Prophets

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 17, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 24, 2014avatar

Some believe that the Ten Commandments, delivered through Moses at Sinai, were relevant only to the Israelites before the Cross and are not binding in the New Covenant era of grace. Others teach that Christians are free from the old law, but only those of Jewish heritage, and not Christians, are still expected to adhere … Continue reading –>

In Memory of Jackie Locke

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 16, 2014 by Maurice AshtonAugust 24, 2020avatar

We were saddened to hear that our friend Jackie Locke passed away yesterday after battling illness for quite some time. Jackie did some moderating for SSNET until she was too ill to continue. Even then, she would send the moderators a prayer every week, thanking us for our work and asking the Lord to bless … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: The Law of God and the Law of Christ

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 16, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonJune 13, 2014avatar

Read for This Week’s Study: Matt. 19:16-22; John 13:34-35; Gal. 6:1-5; Acts 17:31; John 5:30. Memory Text: If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love (John 15:10, NKJV). In most nations a hierarchy of laws exists. At the top … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Toogii’s Triumph

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 15, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 17, 2014avatar

My friends call me Toogii (TAW-gee). I live in the capital city of Mongolia. My family isn’t Christian, so I grew up not knowing much about Jesus. One day a friend of my grandmother gave her an invitation to meetings at the Adventist church, where a missionary was speaking. Grandmother gave the invitation to my … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 15, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 18, 2014avatar

Further Study: “The law reveals sin to us, and causes us to feel our need of Christ and to flee unto Him for pardon and peace by exercising repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. . . . The law of ten commandments is not to be looked upon as much from … Continue reading –>

Winning the Battle

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 15, 2014 by Inge AndersonMay 26, 2015avatar
Battle for the mind

Do you struggle in your Christian walk? Do you get discouraged because you see the great difference between your character and the character of Christ? Do you feel that you can never “win” the battle? Recognizing our sinfulness is a good sign, because it demonstrates that we have some understanding of the beauty of Christ’s … Continue reading –>

07: Christ, the end of the law – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 14, 2014 by Joyce GriffithMay 17, 2014Joyce Griffith

[Thought Questions for Christ, the End of the Law May 14, 2014] Intro. Read the title of this week’s lesson again. What does it mean that Christ is the “end” of the law? Hasn’t the law existed forever? Don’t we love God’s law in the same way the psalmist David did? Doesn’t the law reflect the … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Disciplinarian

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 14, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 16, 2014avatar

(Gal. 3:19-24) In harmony with the book of Romans, Paul is careful to stipulate in Galatians that the purpose of the law is to define sin and not to make people righteous (Gal. 3:19, Gal. 3:21). Read Galatians 3:23-24. What images does Paul use to describe the purpose of the law? What do you think … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
