Thursday: The Curse of the Law

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 7, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 10, 2014avatar

(Gal. 3:10-14) What do the following texts tell us about human nature? How do we see the reality of this truth every day? Ps. 51:5, Isa. 64:6, and Rom. 3:23. With the exception of Christ, all human beings have a common experience in that all have been infected by Adam’s sin. Consequently, no natural person can … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: The Impotent Law

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 6, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 8, 2014avatar

Though in one sense, as we saw, the law empowers sin, in another real way the law is terribly impotent. How can the same object be both powerful and impotent at the same time? Here again, the difference lies not in the law but in the person. For the one who discovers that he is … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: The Power of the Law

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 5, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 29, 2014avatar

According to Romans 4:15, Romans 5:13, and Romans 7:7, what is the function of the law? Also, what does Romans 7:8-11 say about the effect that the law has on the person who violates it? Every instrument has its purpose. Just as a key is used for opening a lock or a knife is used … Continue reading –>

Monday: The Law of Sin and Death

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 4, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonOctober 29, 2014avatar

(Rom. 8:1-8) Paul assures the Christian that there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. . . For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:1-2, NKJV). If we read these verses apart from their … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Dead to the Law

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 3, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 9, 2014avatar

(Rom. 7:1-6) Carefully examine Romans 7:1-6 and summarize as well as you can what Paul is saying. Read it carefully, keeping in mind other Bible passages about the law. Although some Bible versions incorrectly translate verse one to read that the law is binding until death, a literal interpretation is: every living person is under … Continue reading –>

What do you think of when you hear the word “Jubilee”? Did you know that word is used in the Bible? “Then on the Day of Atonement in the fiftieth year, blow the ram’s horn loud and long throughout the land. Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: Sharing the News

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 1, 2014 by Sabbath School LessonMay 7, 2014avatar

I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of. Although my mother didn’t attend any particular church, she prayed for me. And because of her prayers, God took hold of my life. I was in the army when I first felt God’s presence leading me. I began visiting churches, from large, influential ones to … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
