“In the Spirit”

The Holy Spirit at Creation

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  John 4:24 I am sure that you have friends that no matter how long you are apart from them, once you get together, your friendship resumes right where it left off, as though you had never been apart. … Continue reading –>

Man Kneeling at the Feet of Jesus

Read Mark 11:24. Besides asking, what other aspect does Jesus mention in connection with prayer? Asking alone is not enough. There is a second important aspect that needs to be present in our prayers: faith. The book of Hebrews tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please” God (Heb. 11:6, NASB). When we … Continue reading –>

10 The Holy Spirit, the Word, and Prayer – Discussion Starters

Memory Text (Romans 8:26,27). “The Spirit also helps us in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes … Continue reading –>

Monday: The Foundation of Biblical Prayer – Ask God

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 5, 2017 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 7, 2017avatar
Biblical Prayer

Read Matthew 7:7. Before we can receive anything from God, we have to ask for it. Why is our asking so important, if God knows everything anyhow? Asking reveals our desire and expresses our trust in God. Through prayer we approach Him, from whom we seek support and help. When we ask God, we also … Continue reading –>

Sunday: Prayer that is Pleasing to God

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 4, 2017 by Sabbath School LessonAugust 28, 2017avatar
Ask God

Even though clothed in a pious cloak, many prayers are guided by questionable motives. We might pray that someone’s life be spared because we do not like living alone. We might pray for success in God’s work because we are playing an important role in it. We might pray for the conversion of a person … Continue reading –>

Spectacles on Bible

“This is the work in which we also are to be engaged. Instead of living in expectation of some special season of excitement, we are wisely to improve present opportunities, doing that which must be done in order that souls may be saved. Instead of exhausting the powers of our mind in speculations in regard … Continue reading –>

Thursday: The Holy Spirit Unites the Church in Mission and Service

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 1, 2017 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2017avatar
Holy Spirit and Service

Read Acts 2:4-11, Acts 2:16-21. What was the result of the Holy Spirit’s being poured out on the New Testament believers? The Holy Spirit was responsible for the most powerful missionary outreach that history had witnessed to that point. God can do more through a small group that is united in their devotion to Him … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
