04: Salvation – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 22, 2014 by Curtis HallFebruary 14, 2016avatar

When did we stop believing? When did we begin to take pride in declaring our doubts about our salvation? I was in a Sabbath school class recently when, during a discussion about salvation, a long-time member raised a hand for comment. “We should never say that we’re saved!” A partial but oft-quoted Ellen White statement was … Continue reading –>

Apostasy! What Is It?

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 18, 2014 by William EarnhardtMarch 23, 2018avatar

One Friday morning, I was helping in getting a friend’s house “presentable” by pulling weeds in a flower bed when I found in my hands, not a clump of ugly weeds but, instead, a beautiful begonia! I had snapped it at the root, and there was no way I could now save it. In my mind I … Continue reading –>

03: The Holy Spirit – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 16, 2014 by Curtis HallAugust 30, 2014avatar

Their mission was simple – find Jesus and ask him a very direct question. The expected answer would either be yes or no. The reason for this simple question was more complex. The imprisoned John the Baptist was a believer in Christ. Yet, through the insinuations of others and his own misconceptions of the role … Continue reading –>

02: The Son – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 10, 2014 by Curtis HallJuly 10, 2014avatar

I never really thought about this until this week’s lesson on The Son. Hyperbole in speech is so common that unconsciously I took for granted some of the words Jesus spoke to His disciples. But this week, examining who Jesus is, gave me an opportunity to look deeper into my beliefs and convictions. Jesus had … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
