Staying Humble After Being Exalted — 12 Comments

  1. Maybe the Lord was giving Saul time to repent. It was unfortunate he did not. God is so willing to be merciful. What a loving Father we have!

  2. Beautiful article, William, and excellent point. I'm just wondering what makes you think that Joseph ever harboured any vindictiveness against his brothers, or that he ever felt he had anything to prove. Maybe the butler had to forget Joseph for two years, in order to give the brothers more time to thoroughly repent of their evil ways. Of course it was all character development for Joseph, as well, but I'm not sure we have any particulars as to why he might have needed it.

  3. When people say they have read the bible through in a year, I have to ask what exactly does that mean. Is that speed reading or studying the bible. I have ask this question from others. I need much longer to study the bible.

    • Hi Paul, for me it is studying and actually takes way less than a full year before I start over again. Being single with no kids, God has blessed me with opportunities for deep daily Bible study. I understand it is not as easy for people with families, and of course my job as a full time Bible Worker gives me more opportunities as well, especially mornings as most my Bible studies don’t begin until 10am or so.

    • Brother man, I think if you try twenty to thirty minutes of each day to read your Bible, that should enable you to go through it by the end of the year.

  4. Great reminder, it's not about me, me and me. The Israelites used their privilege of being a chosen nation and looked down on others. God's intentions were to save the world through them. God help us not to miss the mark.

  5. I needed to hear this. Humility is bottom, middle and top - never left out of the character building process until the day we die.

    Thank you.

  6. My favourite direct quote of King Jesus is Matthew 11:29: "...learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart..."

Today I wrote this in my daily journal:

    GOD

    Love, Obedience, Faith & Trust

ME (in Humility results in Hope, Joy & Peace)

    Love, Kindness, Gentleness & Patience

    PEOPLE

    Explanation:

    1. The virtues that connect me to God is Love, Obedience, Faith and Trust in Him.
    2. The core virtue I receive and develop with God is Humility which results in Hope, Joy & Peace.
    3. The virtues that connect me to other people is Love, Kindness, Gentleness & Patience.

My belief is this: All virtues stem from humility which is received and developed in unison with God. This helps us achieve Matthew 22:37-40
