10: The Two Covenants – Discussion starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 31, 2017 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 1, 2017Joyce Griffith

The common view of law and grace. Many Christians accept only the New Testament as the basis for their belief in the gospel of Jesus. How do these Christians view the giving of the law on Mt. Sanai? What is wrong about this approach to salvation? The two covenants, your lesson declares, are not linked … Continue reading –>

Singing with Inspiration – Lesson 10: The Two Covenants

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 31, 2017 by Corinne KnopperSeptember 2, 2017avatar

Hymn 109, “Marvelous Grace of our Loving Lord” comes directly from the introduction to the weeks’ lesson study and threads its way through the lesson study for the whole week. Sunday’s lesson states that “God dealt with humanity by means of a series of covenant promises that centered on a coming Redeemer” with these hymns … Continue reading –>

Singing with Inspiration – 9: Paul’s Pastoral Appeal

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2017 by Corinne KnopperAugust 22, 2017avatar

The introduction to our lesson study for this week shows that Paul appeals to the Galatians in a broad sense which “shows just how important correct doctrine is.” There are two hymns that come to mind with this theme: Hymn 203, “This is the Three-Fold Truth” and Hymn 612 “Onward, Christian Soldiers” and we could … Continue reading –>

9: Paul’s Pastoral Appeal – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2017 by Joyce GriffithAugust 26, 2017Joyce Griffith

The heart of Paul. In the nine verses starting with Galatians 4:12, why does Paul say at the end of his discourse, “I have doubts about you”? How could it be that the members of the early Christian church in Galatia have already lost their first love? Does the church you attend show the character … Continue reading –>

Key Thought: We have been adopted into God’s family as sons and daughters in Christ. As part of His family, we have access to the rights and priviledges and responsibilities that entails. Lesson 8, August 19 2017 1. Have a volunteer read Galatians 3:26-29. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the … Continue reading –>

8: From Slaves to Heirs – Discussion Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 15, 2017 by Joyce GriffithAugust 18, 2017Joyce Griffith

From slaves to heirs. Read the short description at the beginning of the lesson and consider how Martin Luther learned to understand Galatians and obtain from this book the hope he craved for his own soul. How can you and I obtain the same blessing from studying this book? Our condition in Christ. Once we … Continue reading –>

Singing with Inspiration – 8: From Slaves to Heirs

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 15, 2017 by Corinne KnopperAugust 15, 2017avatar

The title of this weeks’ lesson study, along with the Memory Text: Galations 4:7, give us our first hymn for this week, Hymn 594, “Heir of the Kingdom”. As we study further into the week, Hymn 568, “Make Me a Captive, Lord, and then I shall be free” is a theme that keeps coming back … Continue reading –>

7: The Road to Faith – Discussion starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 8, 2017 by Joyce GriffithAugust 10, 2017Joyce Griffith

The road to faith. Does your faith ever falter when you face hard times? Are you ever bewildered by the experiences that confront you in your Christian life? Do doubts ever strike you as you try to wrestle with issues that seem too vast to comprehend? Are you ever stricken with doubt and agonize for … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
