1: Making Sense of History: Zerubbabel and Ezra – Singing with Inspiration

Hymn 225, “God Is Working His Purpose Out”, portrays the messengers God uses to work out history for his people in the prophecies. We find that Ezra is not happy with what he has learned in the world’s universities and is looking  “To the Name That Brings Salvation”, Hymn 646. On Thursday, Ezra devoted himself … Continue reading –>

13: A Community of Servants – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 23, 2019 by Corinne KnopperSeptember 23, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

As a community of servants we are to be watchful of what is happening around us: Hymn 597, “Ye Servants of the Lord”. We are then to be faithful to our mandate to “Go, Preach My Gospel”, Hymn 378, as instructed in our Sabbath afternoon introduction to this week’s lesson study. Being in a role … Continue reading –>

12: To Love Mercy – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 16, 2019 by Corinne KnopperSeptember 16, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

We are reminded on Sabbath afternoon that the horrors of this world for the poor, homeless, oppressed, slaves, the exploited, the selfish, greedy and violent will come to an end abruptly as “Jesus Is Coming Again”, Hymn 213. Other hymns of this flavour are Hymn 212, “’Tis Almost Time for the Lord to Come”, Hymn … Continue reading –>

11: Living the Advent Hope – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 9, 2019 by Corinne KnopperSeptember 9, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

As I turned the page to look at the Sabbath afternoon lesson study, looking at the new title, the first hymn that sprang to mind was Hymn 214, “We Have This Hope”. The memory verse is in Hymn 375, “Work, for the Night Is Coming”. Sunday’s title of “How Long, O Lord?” is sung in … Continue reading –>

The memory verse give us our first hymn:  “Marvelous Grace”, Hymn 109, ending with  “My Faith Has Found a Resting Place”, Hymn 523. The introduction goes on speaking of grace, in “Amazing Grace”, Hymn 108. Sunday’s study is found in  Hymn 78, “For God So Loved Us”, and Hymn 341, “To God Be the Glory”. … Continue reading –>

9: Ministry in the New Testament Church – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 25, 2019 by Corinne KnopperAugust 25, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

Sabbath afternoon’s introduction has Matthew 28:18-20 giving us Hymn 378, “Go, Preach My Gospel” – the Great Commission, known as our Mission Statement. We may then request “Baptize Us Anew”, Hymn 258. Hymn 346, “Lord, Who Dost Give to Thy Church” encourages our Pastors, and also those who are like Dorcas, “helping the needy their … Continue reading –>

8: The Least of These – Singing with Inspiration

Playing notes of hymns

Jesus showed us how to be humble servants in His service. This is shown in Hymn 363, “Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service”. We are to “Give of Your Best to the Master”, Hymn 572 and ask “O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee”, Hymn 574. Monday’s Bible texts have us singing Hymn 316, “Live … Continue reading –>

7: Jesus and Those in Need – Singing with Inspiration

Playing notes of hymns

The memory verse gives us two hymns: Hymn 378, “Go, Preach My Gospel” and Hymn 354, “Thy Love, O God”. Compassion for the poor and oppressed is voiced in Hymn 353, “Father, Help Your People” and Hymn 352, “This Is My Will”. Are we ready to go and help? Hymn 359, “Hark! The Voice of … Continue reading –>

6: Worship the Creator – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 4, 2019 by Corinne KnopperAugust 4, 2019avatar
Playing notes of hymns

Hymn 72, “Creator of the Stars of Night” reflects well on the title of this week’s study, “Worship the Creator”. Other hymns that use the name of Maker, rather than Creator, are:  Hymn 15, “My Maker and My King”,  Hymn 37, “O Sing, My Soul, Your Maker’s Praise”,  Hymn 57, “Now All the Woods Are Sleeping”, … Continue reading –>

Playing notes of hymns

“God Has Spoken by His Prophets” – Hymn 413 reminds us of the title of our Lesson study for this week. The call to justice is sung in  Hymn 285, “Jesus Calls Us” and in  Hymn 359, “Hark! The Voice of Jesus Calling”. The prophets did point to us all to : “Stand Up! Stand Up for … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
