The Sabbath, Creation and Faith

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 11, 2011 by Stephen TerryOctober 16, 2015avatar

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.  He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the … Continue reading –>

Reverence

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 4, 2011 by Stephen TerryAugust 5, 2013avatar

“Do not come any closer, God said. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5, NIV The opening chapters of the book of Exodus represent a low point in the history of God’s people. From calling upon the name of the Lord in the early chapters of … Continue reading –>

When Does the Result Justify the Means?

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 1, 2011 by Inge AndersonSeptember 18, 2014avatar

Some Bible stories seem to indicate that God’s will was done by ignoring one or more of His commandments. What does this say to us? I would like our readers to suggest some answers. In response to the lesson plan for “Two Classes of Worshipers,” one of our readers concluded (in an unpublished comment)  that … Continue reading –>

God’s Name

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 27, 2011 by Stephen TerryJuly 18, 2018avatar

The question of how to properly speak and write God’s name frequently comes up. To answer that question, we first have to determine what God’s name is. It is not “God,” or “Lord,” or “Jehovah.” These are what we would call titles not names. God’s name is “YHWH.”  Because the Hebrews considered God’s name too … Continue reading –>

The Purpose of the Church

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 23, 2011 by Stephen TerrySeptember 9, 2014avatar

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely … Continue reading –>

Never Give Up

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 12, 2011 by Stephen TerryJanuary 24, 2016avatar

“because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Mark 5:28, NIV Twelve years before, two events had taken place that would come together later on a single day in Jesus’ ministry.  At that time, Jesus himself was a young man still working in Joseph’s carpenter shop in Nazareth. He had … Continue reading –>

The importance of families

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 10, 2011 by Stephen TerryApril 23, 2012avatar

“Be very careful, then, how you live— not as unwise but as wise,” Ephesians 5:15, NIV” It has often been said that the first four of the Ten Commandments is about honoring God, and the last six are about honoring others. How interesting then that right at the head of the last six God places … Continue reading –>

The Wedding Garment

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 9, 2011 by Stephen TerryMarch 15, 2018avatar

“Then the angel said to me, Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ And he added, These are the true words of God.” Revelation 19:9, NIV Who doesn’t love a wedding? Not long ago, the entire world watched enthralled as Prince William and Kate Middleton were joined in … Continue reading –>

“May you be sealed!”

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 8, 2011 by Andrew C AndersonJuly 5, 2013avatar

Some Adventists feel apologetic about the “investigative judgment,” and others have come to deny it altogether. But an investigation of professed believers is clearly taught in the parable of the wedding feast (Matthew 22:1-3). A study of the Hebrew sanctuary services tells us that the Day of Atonement was a time of judgment in which … Continue reading –>

Come apart and rest a while

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 8, 2011 by Maurice AshtonOctober 11, 2012avatar

The Protestant work ethic has combined with the Internet and roaming devices like the iPad to fill our lives with work. I no longer have to work from 9 till 5! I can start at 4.00am,  and I can work till midnight. I can be at home, shopping, on holiday, with the grand-kids and I … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
