The Sabbath and the Marriage Bed

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 7, 2011 by Andrew S. Baker (ASB)April 22, 2015avatar

One of the most popular questions that is posed concerning Sabbath observance is whether or not it is proper for a husband and wife to engage in sexual relations during the Sabbath hours. This question was raised in response to a posting I made on the significance of the Sabbath. Although the Bible doesn’t answer … Continue reading –>

Significance of the Sabbath

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 29, 2011 by Andrew S. Baker (ASB)September 9, 2014avatar

Too often, discussions about the importance or relevance of the Sabbath focus on what to do (or not to do) on the Sabbath. This inevitably leads to arguments which are usually unproductive. Instead of the Do/Don’t aspect of the Sabbath, let us briefly consider its significance and relevance to us today. The Sabbath reminds us … Continue reading –>

Seventh-day Adventists – a Special People?

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 29, 2011 by Andrew S. Baker (ASB)September 15, 2012avatar

The Seventh-day Adventist church is a prophetic movement which God raised up for the furtherance of the gospel after centuries of apostasy by His church. This makes us special in terms of responsibility. We’re not special because of any intrinsic value that we have, but we have a special message and we are a called … Continue reading –>

Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2011 by Tyler ClutheAugust 10, 2018avatar

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness” (Luke 11:34 NKJV). This text has to do with our perception of truth, how we view things. This is important … Continue reading –>

Personal Worship

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 19, 2011 by Maurice AshtonSeptember 9, 2014avatar

In a previous post I commented on three types of worship, including personal worship, and some have asked me to expand on the latter. Personal worship has come under some scrutiny recently with the rise in interest in “spiritual formation.”  The topic is quite relevant to the lesson on Conformity, Compromise and Crisis in Worship because … Continue reading –>

Conformity, Compromise and the Heart

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 19, 2011 by Inge AndersonAugust 27, 2014avatar

My Bible reading this week included 1 Kings 3:1-15, which tells the story of the beginning of Solomon’s reign — and compromise. 1 Kings 3:1 tells of his marriage to Pharaoh’s daughter, a compromise conforming to the customs of the day. 1 Kings 3:3 tells us that “Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes … Continue reading –>

What Are We Compromising?

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 16, 2011 by Maurice AshtonJanuary 24, 2016avatar

Before we take this week’s lesson title (Conformity, Compromise and Crisis in Worship) as an excuse to proscribe forms of worship that we do not like, we need to consider worship in its wider context. There are three aspects of worship (Yes I am well aware that my classification is not the only one but … Continue reading –>

Evolution of the Bible?

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 14, 2011 by Tyler ClutheNovember 4, 2024avatar

Friday morning I woke up, turned on my computer, looked at the news headlines and got a shock. One of the headlines read, “In Jerusalem, scholars trace Bible’s evolution.” The first two paragraphs were most unsettling: JERUSALEM (AP) — A dull-looking chart projected on the wall of a university office in Jerusalem displayed a revelation … Continue reading –>

Jesus, the Sustainer of My Life

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 7, 2011 by Tyler ClutheJune 26, 2012avatar

We often think of God as the creator and the one who keeps us alive. We look at Him as the one who blesses us by supplying all our needs and many of our wants. But how often do we really think about the extent that God is involved with us? The writer of Hebrews … Continue reading –>

Ordained as Priests

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 26, 2011 by Stephen TerryOctober 18, 2011avatar

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;  Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight!” Isaiah 5:20-21, NASB Today, most Christian denominations are hierarchical in structure with layers of clergy … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
