The Coming of Jesus – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 2, 2015 by Curtis HallApril 5, 2015avatar
Hand Writing in a Scroll

Where was the pomp and ceremony? Where were the billboards and flashing lights? Where were the parades full of colorfully dressed marchers and floats full of VIPs? Surely, the most anticipated event of the nation would not go unnoticed and uncelebrated. “And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and … Continue reading –>

01: The Coming of Jesus – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 31, 2015 by Joyce GriffithApril 8, 2015Joyce Griffith

1. Introduction. Wouldn’t it be great to have the apostle Luke as a member–and leader–of your local church? What is special today about having one or more doctors in a congregation? In what ways did Luke’s occupation resemble the work of physicians today? How did Luke’s background qualify him for his ministry to the Gentiles? [Thought … Continue reading –>

01: The Coming of Jesus – Lesson Plan

Mother Holding Baby

Key Thought : In Luke’s work as a physician, he ministered to the sick and then prayer for the healing power of God. This opened the way for the gospel. It is the divine plan that we shall work as the disciples worked.. [Lesson plan for The Coming of Jesus March 30, 2015] 1. Have a … Continue reading –>

Why Did Jesus Create Wine?

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 29, 2015 by Inge AndersonSeptember 14, 2018avatar

Or did He create wine – that is what we understand by wine? Some ask, “Why do Seventh-day Adventists teach total abstinence from alcohol when Jesus Himself made wine in His first miracle?” (John 2:1-12) It helps to know that “wine” in the Bible doesn’t mean quite the same thing as it means now. The … Continue reading –>

13: Women and Wine – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 26, 2015 by Curtis HallMarch 29, 2015avatar

I must admit, when I first saw the title of this week’s lesson I was less than excited. I’m to be a guest teacher at a church this weekend and envisioning myself, a man, warning against the evils of loose women, was not a happy thought. Plus, the dangers of and avoidance of alcohol is … Continue reading –>

13: Women and Wine – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 24, 2015 by Joyce GriffithMarch 27, 2015Joyce Griffith

Introduction. Stay away from trouble by leaving strong drink alone. Drunkenness is a state of being that simply doesn’t fit with a Christ-centered lifestyle. Ironic, but I’m starting to write my 15th book. Its title, The Alcohol Trap. Another irony is that in some parts of the US and elsewhere, the consumption of alcoholic beverages by … Continue reading –>

Abstinence and the Priesthood of All Believers

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 24, 2015 by William EarnhardtApril 2, 2015avatar

While Seventh-day Adventists have a health and temperance message to give to the world, God has been using His people in every church and age to spread this message. A while back, I visited the Congregational church in Litchfield, Connecticut, which was formed back in the 1700’s. When I got home, I googled the history … Continue reading –>

13: Women and Wine – Lesson Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 23, 2015 by Michael FrackerAugust 6, 2015Michael Fracker

Key Thought : The lifestyle choices we make are not trivial issues, but have major effects. It is best to follow God’s lifestyle directives. [Lesson plan for Women and Wine March 23, 2015] 1. Have a volunteer read Proverbs 31:3-5,8,9. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this … Continue reading –>

More Knowledgeable, or Wiser?

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 22, 2015 by Maurice AshtonApril 3, 2015avatar

It is always good to ask at the end of a study session, “What have we learned?” In the case of this quarter’s lessons, which is essentially about wisdom, perhaps we could phrase the question, “Are we wiser now or just more knowledgeable?” We did discuss the difference between knowledge and wisdom at the beginning … Continue reading –>

12: The Humility of the Wise – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on March 19, 2015 by Curtis HallMarch 22, 2015avatar

It was named Hurricane Katrina, and it was a life-changing storm. One day you’re living your normal life going about your normal activities and the next day you are destitute. No job. No boss. No office. No employees. No income. No cash. No ATM. No home. No condo. No address. No make-up, comb or brush. … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
