The Fourth Commandment

[Thought questions for Christ and the Sabbath April 29, 2014] 1. Introduction. Do you know someone who keeps the first day (Sunday) the same way Adventists keep (or believe we should keep) the seventh day (Saturday) as the Sabbath? Have customs and traditions other than those concerning which the day of the week is Sabbath caused changes in Sabbath worship? … Continue reading –>

05: Christ and the Sabbath – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 30, 2014 by Curtis HallMay 6, 2014avatar

“The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27 To my fellow Seventh-day Adventists, defenders and champions of the Ten Commandments. Something seems to be wrong with our observance of the Sabbath. I know I am speaking to only … Continue reading –>

Sabbath – The Reminder of the Evidence

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 27, 2014 by Inge AndersonAugust 27, 2014avatar

Andrew Legall recommended this video, writing that “it changed my view of the Sabbath radically.” This conversation was recorded 30 years ago by the late Graham Maxwell, professor of New Testament studies at Loma Linda University, and Louis Venden of the PUC church. It is from a series of Friday evening programs called, “Conversations About God.” If … Continue reading –>

04: Christ and the Law in the Sermon on the Mount – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 23, 2014 by Joyce GriffithApril 25, 2014Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for Christ and the Law in the Sermon on the Mount April 23, 2014] 1. Destroy or fulfill? If you make a promise and keep it, does the promise still exist? Or has it vanished? 04: Christ and the Law in the Sermon on the Mount – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 22, 2014 by Curtis HallApril 23, 2014avatar

It was another Red Sea moment. To retreat would be catastrophic. To advance would be humanly impossible. And Jesus was instructing them to do the impossible. This week as we focus on Christ and the Law in the Sermon on the Mount we find Him burrowing beyond the letter of the law into the motives … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
