God's Law

Read Jeremiah 31:31-34. What do these texts mean both in their immediate context and in ours today? Jeremiah uttered these words amid the greatest crisis the people had yet faced: the coming Babylonian invasion, when the nation was threatened with all but certain extinction. Here again, however, as in other places, the Lord offered them … Continue reading –>

Israel Assembled at Mt Sinai

How was the covenant made between Israel and God at Mount Sinai? Exodus 24:1-18 Moses and some leaders went to Mount Sinai. These leaders included Aaron and his two sons, who represented the priests; and the 70 elders and leaders, who represented the nation. The men accompanying Moses had to stop from afar, but Moses was … Continue reading –>

Read Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 15:1-5, Genesis 17:1-14. What do these texts tell us about what the Lord intended to do through the covenant He made with Abraham? The Abrahamic covenant of grace is fundamental to the entire course of salvation history. That’s why Paul used it to help explain the plan of salvation as it … Continue reading –>

Covenant of the Rainbow

We look at how bad the world is today; that is, we see all the evil in it, and yet God still bears with us. Thus, we can only imagine just how bad things must have been in order for the Lord to destroy the whole world with a flood. God had given men His … Continue reading –>

10: Christ, the Law and the Covenants – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 5, 2014 by Curtis HallJune 10, 2014avatar

prom•ise: an express assurance on which expectation is based. From the moment man found himself in trouble, God has come beside humanity with a promise of remediation. No crime has been too large, no offence to great. It has always been about the promise. To Adam, who had unleashed the curse of death on mankind, … Continue reading –>

Why the Old Covenant?

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 4, 2011 by Tyler ClutheDecember 24, 2014avatar

Previously, we asked the question, “What is a Covenant?” Now let’s explore some covenants in the Bible.1 Long before sin entered this world through Adam and Eve, God made a covenant with Himself concerning a plan to deal with the sin problem. It was a comprehensive plan that would settle the controversy between Christ and … Continue reading –>

What Is a Covenant?

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 24, 2011 by Tyler ClutheJanuary 29, 2015avatar

In this sin-ridden world we, keeping a promise is not looked upon with much respect. Therefore, in order for society to insure that promises would be kept, man has devised simple ways to enforce such things. Two of those ways are the ancient covenant and today’s contract. The difference between the two of them basically … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
