Jesus Standing Behind Manger

Sabbath Afternoon Read for This Week’s Study: Isa: 9:1-5;  Isaiah 9.6-7; Isa: 9:8-10:34; Isa: 11:1-16; Isa: 12:1-6. Memory Text: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, … Continue reading –>

Trusting God’s Promises Alone

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 21, 2021 by William EarnhardtFebruary 5, 2021avatar

It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes. Psalm 118:9 NLT When you read this week’s lesson on how Ahaz sought support from surrounding nations instead of God alone, did it remind you of times you trusted in people and they let you down? It did me. I almost … Continue reading –>

Godwin Lekundayo

Timely Lesson By Godwin K. Lekundayo God taught me about heaven’s understanding of time when, as a district pastor, I led a three-week evangelistic series in my homeland, Tanzania. Local organizers chose the dry season for the meetings in Moshi, a city at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. But heavy rains started to fall after … Continue reading –>

Spectacles on Bible

Further Study: Read in The Great Controversy, “Can Our Dead Speak to Us?” pages 551-562. “In the days of the Hebrews there was a class of people who claimed, as do the spiritualists of today, to hold communication with the dead. But the ‘familiar spirits,’ as these visitants from other worlds were called, are declared by … Continue reading –>

Occult

Isa: 8:16-22 Read the above passage. What is it talking about? What has this to do with King Ahaz? Summarize the ideas. Ahaz was deeply involved in pagan religion ( 2 Kings 16.3-4, 2 Kings 16:10-15;  2 Chronicles 28.2-4, 2 Chronicles 28.23-25), which was heavily interconnected with the occult (compare Deut: 32:17, NRSV; “They sacrifice to demons”, 1 Cor: 10:20). Various aspects … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Nothing to Fear When We Fear God Himself

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 19, 2021 by Sabbath School LessonJanuary 13, 2021avatar
Anxious in prayer, man bowed under question mark

Isa: 8:11-15 In his first inaugural address, American President Franklin D. Roosevelt told a nation disheartened by the Great Depression: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” — U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C. (March 4, 1933). Isaiah’s message to depressed people is: “We have nothing to fear when we fear God Himself.” God … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: What’s in a Name?

Drowning Hand Seeking Help

Isaiah 8:1-10 Can you imagine playing a ball game with Isaiah’s second boy? By the time you could say “Maher-shalal-hash-baz, throw me the ball!” it would be too late. But even longer than his name is its meaning: “swift is booty, speedy is prey” or “speed the spoil, hasten the plunder.” The message of the name … Continue reading –>

Enemies at the Gate

Isaiah 7:17-25 Read the above verses. What is the Lord saying that will happen to the land? Why should we not be surprised at this outcome? “Invitation upon invitation was sent to erring Israel to return to their allegiance to Jehovah. Tender were the pleadings of the prophets; and as they stood before the people, earnestly … Continue reading –>

4: The Hard Way – Singing with Inspiration

Sabbath School Net Posted on January 16, 2021 by Corinne KnopperJanuary 16, 2021avatar

As the Israelites forgot about God and followed so many other gods and nations, God remained faithful to them, with Isaiah and many other prophets working so hard for God to turn His people around, hence I will choose Hymn 100 – Great Is Thy Faithfulness as a theme hymn for this quarter. Secondary to this … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
