Sabbath School Net Posted on September 19, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 1, 2013Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for The Antichrist September, 19, 2012] 1. Are we there yet? Living two thousand  years ago with the recent memory of a Christ Jesus crucified and resurrected, what earthly reason did our Thessalonian brothers and sisters have for assuming Jesus would come that soon? What about us today? Why are we so sure that … Continue reading –>

11: Promise to the Persecuted – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 12, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 1, 2013Joyce Griffith

Introduction Can we modern-day computer-saturated Christians even imagine what communication was like in Paul’s day? Today we consider it a disaster if we’re without electricity for an hour or two. Once current is available, we can flash a message to a relative or friend thousands of miles away and in seconds the message is being … Continue reading –>

10: Church Life – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 5, 2012 by Joyce GriffithSeptember 8, 2012Joyce Griffith

Introduction Three admonitions, six imperatives, eight brief admonitions, and closing prayer. This is how Paul concludes his first letter to the Thessalonians. Fasten your seat belts. This could be an exhilarating and life-altering experience for us, sitting with the rest of the last-day believers in church homes and other meeting places around the world. What is Paul’s … Continue reading –>

09: Final Events – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 29, 2012 by Joyce GriffithAugust 31, 2012Joyce Griffith

It was an unusual meeting taking place entirely in the minds of those attending. “Jesus is coming again in seven days.” One of the faithful who had seen Jesus after the resurrection was sure He would return right away. A week would be about right. “He’s coming on October 22, 1844.” A young Adventist believer spoke with conviction. “The Bible says … Continue reading –>

08: The Dead in Christ – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 22, 2012 by Joyce GriffithJanuary 30, 2017Joyce Griffith

The death of infants and children seems terrible because the precious ones are gone without having lived a life for Jesus. And, of course, the death of parents and hard-working adults who are giving family members a livelihood and taking care of others are heroes we don’t want to lose. But as we age, the death of … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
