Sunday: Jesus in Isaiah 53

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 9, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Read Isaiah 53:2-12. What do these verses teach about what Christ did for us?   Isaiah 52:13-53:12 is a powerful description of Christ’s death for the sins of the world. Several aspects in this passage provide clear evidence that Jesus’ death is atonement in the form of penal substitution, which means that He took the … Continue reading –>

Friday: Further Study: Day of Atonement

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 7, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Further Study: “Now the event takes place foreshadowed in the last solemn service of the Day of Atonement. When the ministration in the holy of holies had been completed, and the sins of Israel had been removed from the sanctuary by virtue of the blood of the sin offering, then the scapegoat was presented alive … Continue reading –>

Inside Story: A Child Shall Lead

From infancy, Joelito’s mother taught him to love and serve Jesus. When she led small-group meetings, Joelito watched her and learned from her. When he was 8 years old, he asked to be baptized and to lead others to Jesus. When Joelito was 10, the government of Peru passed a law requiring children to attend … Continue reading –>

Thursday: Isaiah’s Personal Yom Kippur

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 6, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

In Isaiah 6:1-6, Isaiah sees the heavenly King sitting on a throne in the temple, “high and exalted.” The vision is a judgment scene that presents God as coming for judgment (Isa. 5:16). Isaiah beholds the true King, identified in the Gospel of John as Jesus Christ (John 12:41). Even though Isaiah was God’s prophet … Continue reading –>

06: Day of Atonement – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 6, 2013 by Joyce GriffithJanuary 1, 2014Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for The Day of Atonement November 6, 2013] 1. Our High Priest.  Who were the only two human participants in the Day of Atonement? Why were the other priests required to leave the immediate area? Can you think of at least one reason why the priest performed every ritual alone? What did the laying … Continue reading –>

Above and Beyond

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 5, 2013 by Lillianne LopezFebruary 27, 2018avatar

I spent some time looking for a good example of atonement, this week. It was more difficult than I expected because so many of the examples I found equate atonement with forgiveness – synonyms. I have to admit, that I have thought of them as the same as well. But when I look at the … Continue reading –>

May You Be Sealed!

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 5, 2013 by Andrew C AndersonMay 14, 2024avatar

Some Adventists feel apologetic about the “investigative judgment,” and others have come to deny it altogether. But an investigation of professed believers is clearly taught in the parable of the wedding feast (Matthew 22:1-3). A study of the Hebrew sanctuary services tells us that the Day of Atonement was a time of judgment in which … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: On The Day of Atonement

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 5, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

“Thus in the ministration of the tabernacle, and of the temple that afterward took its place, the people were taught each day the great truths relative to Christ’s death and ministration, and once each year their minds were carried forward to the closing events of The Great Controversy between Christ and Satan, the final purification … Continue reading –>

06: The Day of Atonement – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 4, 2013 by Michael FrackerJanuary 2, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : The Day of Atonement services point forward to Christ’s work of investigative judgment in the heavenly sanctuary. [Lesson plan for The Day of Atonement November 4, 2013] 1. Have a volunteer read Leviticus 16:15,16,30. a. Ask class members to share a thought on what the most important point in this text is. … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Azazel

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 4, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Read Leviticus 16:20-22. What happened to the live goat? The ritual with the live goat was not an offering. After the lot decided which of the two goats was to be for Yahweh and which one was for Azazel (often translated as “scapegoat”), only the goat for Yahweh is referred to as a purification offering … Continue reading –>

Monday: Beyond Forgiveness

Sabbath School Net Posted on November 3, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Read Leviticus 16:32-34. What was the main task of the High Priest on the Day of Atonement? The primary function of the high priest was to mediate between God and mankind. Regarding the sanctuary, he administered the system and performed various rituals of sacrifices and offerings (Heb. 8:3). His task on the Day of Atonement … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
