Death and Resurrection – Seventh-day Adventist Fundamental Belief 26

The wages of sin is death. But God, who alone is immortal, will grant eternal life to His redeemed. Until that day death is an unconscious state for all people. When Christ, who is our life, appears, the resurrected righteous and the living righteous will be glorified and caught up to meet their Lord. The second resurrection, the resurrection of the unrighteous, will take place a thousand years later. (Rom. 6:23; 1 Tim. 6:15, 16; Eccl. 9:5, 6; Ps. 146:3, 4; John 11:11-14; Col. 3:4; 1 Cor. 15:51-54; 1 Thess. 4:13-17; John 5:28, 29; Rev. 20:1-10.)

The Two Resurrections and the Second Death

The Appearing. Vintage painting showing the second coming of Christ to rescue His people.

The Bible teaches two different resurrections. Jesus spoke of one resurrection for those who are saved, and another resurrection for those who are lost. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the … [Click to read more …]

Can the Dead Talk to Us?

A Bible student excitedly told me about a movie he saw where someone died and went to heaven where he saw his dead loved ones. When I reminded him about the state of the dead, he told me, “Well maybe they did not actually die. Maybe it was a dream.” He was quite emotional about the movie … [Click to read more …]

Punishment of the Wicked In Light of The Cross

To me, the biggest lie out of the Dark Ages is not that Sabbath was changed to Sunday, or that when you die you go straight to heaven. To me, no lie distorts the character of my loving heavenly father like the lie that sinners will be tormented throughout the endless ages of eternity. Fact … [Click to read more …]

Death and the Resurrection in Light of the Cross

It’s that time of year when the leaves spring back onto barren trees and flowers bloom back to life. Every spring reminds me of the second coming and resurrection. I believe God lets everything die in the winter and come back in the spring to demonstrate for us His re-creation and resurrection power. Just as … [Click to read more …]

Thursday: Death and Resurrection

In the New Testament, one of the events connected with the second coming of Christ is the resurrection of those who died believing in Him. In fact, as far as most believers are concerned, that is the most important part of the Second Coming, because most of Christ’s followers will be dead when He returns. … [Click to read more …]

Till We Meet Again

I recently met a woman whose husband died suddenly and tragically less than a year ago. They had been together over forty years and had been high school sweethearts. She has the most amazing attitude. Yes she misses him terribly, but she knows that she will see her husband again. In fact, they had promised … [Click to read more …]

Never Give Up

“because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Mark 5:28, NIV Twelve years before, two events had taken place that would come together later on a single day in Jesus’ ministry.  At that time, Jesus himself was a young man still working in Joseph’s carpenter shop in Nazareth. He had … [Click to read more …]
