Thursday: Further Evidence of Faith (1 Thess. 1:8-10)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 25, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10. In what ways does this passage offer additional evidence of the Thessalonians’ faith? Paul continues the sentence that began in verse 2 by explaining how he knows the Thessalonians have become a model or type to the other believers in Macedonia (where Thessalonica was located) and Achaia (where Corinth was located). First, they were … Continue reading –>

Wednesday: Doing What Paul Would Do (1 Thess. 1:6, 7)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 24, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

Read 1Thessalonians 1:6-7. What is Paul’s message there? How are we to understand this in light of the idea of Christ as our ultimate example? Most translations do not show this, but in verse 6 Paul continues the same sentence that he began in verse 2 and carries it on through verse 10. The main topic of this lengthy sentence is … Continue reading –>

Ever Was Heard an Encouraging Word

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 24, 2012 by Lillianne LopezJuly 28, 2012avatar

Mike Howerton remembers the two vastly different ways two of his high school coaches approached encouraging the team. Howertown remembers that in one game, his team was losing. During halftime, the two coaches would give two very different pep talks. “Coach Crow [came] in growling, spitting disdain in his words at us: ‘What a bunch … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Assurance in Christ (1 Thess. 1:5)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 23, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar
Man in the Hand of God

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:5. How do we gain the assurance that we are right with God? What three evidences in the lives of the Thessalonians indicated to Paul that they were right with God? Verse 5 begins with “for” or “because.” In this verse Paul details the grounds for his conviction that the Thessalonians were “chosen” … Continue reading –>

Ruin Satan’s Day

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 23, 2012 by William EarnhardtAugust 12, 2014avatar

Has Satan ever tried to ruin your day? Well let me tell you about when I ruined his day. Years ago, I was driving in the middle of the night across country to see my sister and see about a job. I had just quit a job that was not working out and had no … Continue reading –>

Monday: God Has Chosen You (1 Thess. 1:4)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 22, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar
God's Hand Saving Man

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:4. What does it mean that God has chosen or elected us? Does that mean we don’t really have a choice? On the other hand, does it mean that someone who is not chosen by God cannot have salvation even if he or she wants it? Verse 4 continues the same extended sentence … Continue reading –>

Sunday: A Prayer of Thanks (1 Thess. 1:1-3)

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 21, 2012 by SSNET StaffMay 27, 2015avatar

In the opening words of 1 Thessalonians, we catch a glimpse of the selflessness of Paul. While he was clearly the author of this letter (1 Thess. 2:18, 3:5, 5:27), he gives recognition to his coworkers Silas and Timothy. Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3. For what things are Paul, Silas, and Timothy giving thanks? What do these things mean in a … Continue reading –>

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 20, 2012 by Stephen TerryJune 23, 2017avatar

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
