The Letter of the Law and the Spirit of The law

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 11, 2019 by William EarnhardtJuly 18, 2019avatar
Law as Schoolmaster

The question has been asked, “What is the difference between the spirit of the law and the letter of the law?” To me, it all comes down to motivation. When I stop at a red light to avoid getting a ticket, I am only obeying the letter of the law. Would I go ahead and … Continue reading –>

Jesus, Really? A Humble Little Child Is the Greatest?

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 5, 2019 by William EarnhardtJuly 11, 2019avatar

About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?” Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into … Continue reading –>

I Stand At The Door

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 5, 2019 by Curtis HallJuly 18, 2019avatar

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” Who’s there? Jesus! What can I do for you? It’s what I can do for you. Will you open the door? Uh, can you first tell me why you’re here? Your revival Oh, sorry but I already had revival. Really? How and when? Recently at our church. … Continue reading –>

How NOT to Study the Bible with Others

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 25, 2019 by William EarnhardtJuly 5, 2019avatar

As we study this week’s Sabbath School lesson, about turning hearts in the end of time, I know many of us are praying for loved ones who have turned away. Sadly, many have been brought up in the Adventist church under legalistic and even abusive home and church situations. Because of this they have a … Continue reading –>

Want to Get Away?

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 17, 2019 by William EarnhardtJune 25, 2019avatar

In the United States, we have an airline, called Southwest, who ask on their commercials, “Want to get away?” In each commercial someone will find themselves in an embarrassing situation, where they would gladly fly to the other side of the world and hide under a rock. The airline then suggests getting on their plane … Continue reading –>

Conservative Towards Ourselves, Liberal Towards Others

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 14, 2019 by William EarnhardtMay 22, 2019avatar

Monday’s section of this week’s lesson reads, Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Try placing your name where the word “love” appears. How well does it fit? Ask Jesus to bring these qualities of love into your life by His Spirit. What changes might the Spirit prompt you to make in order to reach this Christian ideal? … Continue reading –>

Sleeping in While Jesus Knocks at the Door

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 6, 2019 by William EarnhardtMay 14, 2019avatar

This week’s lesson from the Song of Solomon reminded me of a passage in Song of Solomon, chapter 5, that could be compared to Jesus knocking on the heart’s door of the church of Laodicea. Most of us are familiar with this passage in Revelation: “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you … Continue reading –>

Group Think

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 2, 2019 by William EarnhardtMay 8, 2019avatar

Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. Proverbs 15:22 NLT …..victory depends on having many advisers. Proverbs 24:6 NLT None of us enjoys getting our ideas shot down by a committee or board. Yet there is safety in numbers, but only if all speak their mind in a humble and Christlike way. … Continue reading –>

What if I Told You Life Is Not About Being Married?

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 22, 2019 by William EarnhardtAugust 24, 2020avatar

“Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!” Revelation 19:9 NKJV I talk to people right along, and I am sure you do too, who are very lonely, isolated and feeling unfulfilled in their marriages. You might think such experiences would make me feel validated in my singleness but they … Continue reading –>

Enjoy all the Days of Your Life!

Sabbath School Net Posted on April 15, 2019 by William EarnhardtApril 22, 2019avatar

But the godly will flourish like palm trees…..Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. Psalm 92:12-14 NLT When I was young I was inspired by John Kennedy, because he was the most youthful U.S. president, and he showed what younger people can do. Now that I am … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
