01: The Heavenly Sanctuary – Thought Starters

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 2, 2013 by Joyce GriffithOctober 4, 2013Joyce Griffith

[Thought questions for The Heavenly Sanctuary October 2, 2013] Part I Portrait of Love. Two German brothers in the 15th century planned to rise above the poverty that threatened to destroy their dream. With 18 children, parental help was highly unlikely. The plan sent Albert to work in the mines to support Albrecht, who would … Continue reading –>

Jesus the High Priest Interceding

Read Hebrews 8:1-2. What is Christ doing at the throne of God? The book of Hebrews teaches that Christ is ministering in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest. His work there is focused on our salvation, for He appears “in the presence of God for us” (Heb. 9:24, NASB). He sympathizes with us, giving … Continue reading –>

Where Is the Most Holy Place?

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 1, 2013 by William EarnhardtJuly 7, 2018avatar

Where is the most holy place? Is it a building on earth or in heaven? Or is it somewhere else? While I was a child living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a tornado hit the surrounding area where I lived. Among the destruction was a Methodist church. That night on the news, I remember the Methodist pastor, … Continue reading –>

Read Psalm 11:4–7 and Habakkuk 2:20. What else does God do in His heavenly temple, and why is this important for us to know? Many Psalms reveal that the Lord is not indifferent to the needs of the righteous or to the injustices that they often face. He will react to the issues that cry out for redress, … Continue reading –>

The Heavenly Sanctuary – Teaching Plan

Sabbath School Net Posted on October 1, 2013 by Michael FrackerJanuary 2, 2014Michael Fracker

Key Thought : The Bible repeatedly affirms the reality of a heavenly sanctuary. It reveals a loving God who had developed from the beginning of Creation a plan to save mankind.. [Teaching plan for The Heavenly Sanctuary October 1, 2013] 1. Have a volunteer read I Kings 8:49. a. Ask class members to share a … Continue reading –>

A Place Set Apart

Wilderness Tabernacle

The term “sanctuary” comes from the Hebrew “miqdash” and means “sacred place, sanctuary, holy place” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance H4720). It has the sense of being holy – something above the common or something consecrated. It is a term that is strongly associated with the word to sanctify which in its most basic sense simply means “to … Continue reading –>

Tuesday: Worship in Heaven

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 30, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Read Revelation 4 and 5.  What do these two chapters teach us about the heavenly dwelling place of God? In what way is the plan of salvation revealed in these texts, as well? The vision of the heavenly throne room is a vision of the heavenly sanctuary. This is made evident from the language referring to … Continue reading –>

Monday: Throne Room

God the Father With the Son

Read Psalms 47:6–9; 93:1-2; 103:19. What do these texts teach us about God and His throne? Several visions of the heavenly throne occur in the Bible. Most depict a kind of heavenly assembly, with God as King. Interestingly enough, most of them are concerned with human affairs, usually presenting God as acting for or speaking in behalf of … Continue reading –>

Sunday: God’s Residence

We often say that “God is everywhere.” Or that He is “omnipresent,” which means that He is present throughout the universe. “ ‘Am I a God near at hand, . . . and not a God afar off? . . . Do I not fill heaven and earth?’ ” (Jer. 23:23-24, NKJV). David understood, too, that … Continue reading –>

Addiction

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 27, 2013 by Jennifer SchwirzerOctober 2, 2016avatar

I received a tortured call one evening. “Horrible things are happening, my life is coming unraveled,” the caller said, spilling out a litany of disasters that tangled financial loss, physical illness, family estrangement, and psychological despair. “Your addiction is catching up with you,” I said. The dialog between the two of us had been protracted, … Continue reading –>

A New Commandment That Was There All Along

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 27, 2013 by William EarnhardtOctober 1, 2013avatar

There is a trick question I love to ask people. What was the tallest mountain in the world before Mount Everest was discovered? I get all kinds of answers, like “Mount McKinley “and so forth, but you know what the answer is? Mount Everest! Mount Everest was the tallest mountain in the world (Now I … Continue reading –>

Sabbath: The Picture of Salvation

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 27, 2013 by Sabbath School LessonMarch 3, 2016avatar

Quarter 4, 2013, Introduction: The Picture of Salvation by: Martin Pröbstle Unquestionably, the greatest revelation of the love and character of God was at the cross, where the Lord offered Himself in the person of Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for the sins of a world that never had to sin to begin with. To … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
