04: Salvation – Hit the Mark

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 22, 2014 by Curtis HallFebruary 14, 2016avatar

When did we stop believing? When did we begin to take pride in declaring our doubts about our salvation? I was in a Sabbath school class recently when, during a discussion about salvation, a long-time member raised a hand for comment. “We should never say that we’re saved!” A partial but oft-quoted Ellen White statement was … Continue reading –>

Studying the Word With Jesus

When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?” Matthew 21:23 NLT That makes me think of what a friend told me about when she was first sitting on a church … Continue reading –>

Working Hard Without Success

Sabbath School Net Posted on June 20, 2014 by William EarnhardtJune 25, 2017avatar

When I first picked up the game of golf over seven years ago, I was excited to get to play with my friend Tom, a buddy from college. I had only been golfing a few weeks when we met one winter on a course in the Chattanooga Mountains. I scored a 137 in the mountains that day and … Continue reading –>

Have you ever been “compelled” to do something? Have you ever “compelled” anybody else do to anything? Does the word “compel” have positive or negative connotations to you? It’s an important question because we are told in the Matthew 14 parable of the wedding feast, “…, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel … Continue reading –>

“According to new research from the Center for the Study of Global Christianity one out of five non-Christians in North America does not “personally know” a single follower of Christ. What Is Your Greatest Treasure?

Sabbath School Net Posted on May 21, 2014 by William EarnhardtMay 24, 2016avatar
Man Turning Away from Jesus

Is it  your relationship with Jesus, or is it something else? A rich young ruler came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” Matthew 19:16 NLT Is this a profound question? It’s really a shallow and selfish question. The young man asking this question is only interested in his own … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
