Are Adventists Old-Covenant Christians? (Part 5)

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 26, 2017 by Marcos David TorresJuly 22, 2024avatar
Christ Standing Before Mercy Seat

In the previous post, we identified where Adventism fits in relation to covenant theology. The conclusion placed Adventism closest to the views espoused by the 2nd London Baptist Confession, a covenantal framework that falls under the tradition of the Presbyterians, Congregationalists, and Baptists known as “Covenantalism.” The post concluded by sharing some points on how this … Continue reading –>

When is it a Good Idea Not to Follow Bible Counsel?

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 20, 2017 by William EarnhardtFebruary 13, 2018avatar
Open Bible

A few years ago I was talking to a head elder, who had rushed to judgment and taken it upon himself to take “executive” action against another church member. I asked him if he had followed the counsel in Matthew 18, and talked to the member first. He boldly told me he did not need … Continue reading –>

God’s Law: The One, the Two, the Ten and the Many

Sabbath School Net Posted on September 10, 2017 by Inge AndersonSeptember 27, 2017avatar

Law isn’t very popular in our society – especially moral law. Doing your “own thing” is promoted in popular media and commercials. Postmodern culture is allergic to absolutes, and laws are absolutes. Law even seems to have a bad reputation in Christian circles. After all, Paul said that the Law is no longer needed after … Continue reading –>

Dying to Overcome – Every Day

Sabbath School Net Posted on August 31, 2017 by William EarnhardtSeptember 16, 2017avatar

And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24 NKJV  While reading through Galatians again, the part of this passage about even our desires being crucified jumped out at me. I have studied with people who tell me that even though they stopped smoking, the desire to smoke … Continue reading –>

He’s Like Me

Arrow of People

Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do…Galatians 4:12 NLT So I urge you to imitate me. 1 Corinthians 4:16 NLT Why is Paul telling us to be like him? Aren’t we supposed to follow Jesus as our only example? There’s a story of a man who was trying to … Continue reading –>

God Has Always Been Graceful

Faces Looking at a Cross

We’re Still Family!

Circle of Friends of all Races

I imagine when you have spirited disagreements in your Sabbath school that you don’t call each others fools, but that is what Paul does in his letter to the Galatians.  O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as … Continue reading –>

What Was Wrong With Sinai?

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 25, 2017 by William EarnhardtSeptember 4, 2017avatar
Jesus Teaching the Law

For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— Galatians 4:24 NKJV  What did Paul mean by Mount Sinai? Many believe he was referring to the Ten Commandments. Was he? Paul speaks favorably of the Ten Commandments in Ephesians 6, and I doubt he would … Continue reading –>

Love Comes First

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 21, 2017 by William EarnhardtJuly 26, 2017avatar

If you love me, obey my commandments. John 14:15 NLT Jesus didn’t say, “if you want to go to heaven, obey my commandments.” He did not say, “if you don’t want to go to hell, obey my commandments.” Okay we already knew all that, but while studying Monday’s lesson about the works of the law, … Continue reading –>

A Short History of the King James Version of the Bible

Sabbath School Net Posted on July 14, 2017 by Maurice AshtonFebruary 13, 2023avatar

The King James version of the Bible is often considered the gold standard for modern translations, but few of us are familiar with its history, mandate, publication and early printing. This article provides a brief glimpse in the hope that we will understand it and its historical context a little better. The Bibles in Use … Continue reading –>

At a camp meeting 40 years later, I happened to see Dr. I. demonstrating some kind of health product, if I remember correctly. (In my mind, I see only the image of him, much older, but still looking much like he did when I was a student, with a friend by my side.) I lingered a little but did not introduce myself. I briefly wondered whether he recognized me. I’m fairly sure that I was as recognizable to him as he was to me.

Had he changed? Or did he still feel superior in his “humility”? Should I talk to him? I didn’t know how to approach him, and was busy with friends. I still don’t know whether I should have said something. (Maybe I’m just a coward.)

If God wants him to see my story, his and my identity are clear enough in this post, that God can direct him to it.
